The ISF (InsuResilience Solutions Fund ) is an innovative programme to support and develop climate risk insurance products mitigating the negative impacts of climate related disasters such as droughts, heat and floods. The programme is funded by the German Government (BMZ), as an important contribution to the G20/V20 initiative of the InsuResilience Global Partnership. Within its mandate, the ISF supports detailed climate risk analyses in close cooperation with partners in developing countries in order to increase their resilience against the negative impacts of climate change. Furthermore, in cooperation with the Insurance Development Forum (IDF) ISF manages also the Global Risk Modelling Alliance (GRMA) which is a PPP aimed at increasing awareness and knowledge of climate risks in vulnerable countries as a key step in closing the protection gap and moving from disaster response to risk prevention.
The focus of this position will be on a conceptual and advisory activity in the development and coordination of climate risk analyses for selected geographic areas (in developing countries) and other approaches to foster climate risk understanding and improved climate adaptation.
To support the ISF Team we are looking for a
Your Tasks
Supporting the implementation of various strands of work in the field of disaster risk finance or climate risk insurance in selected countries.
Coordinating/managing the implementation of climate risk finance projects and support the project management of ISF/GRMA as well as other on-going projects.
Coordinating the implementation of climate risk analyses and overseeing and reviewing climate risk assessment projects in exchange with the private sector and in close collaboration with partners, such as in GRMA.
Supporting partners within developing countries to build-up own capacities and know-how in the area of climate risk analysis as well as adapting tools to the respective local context.
Contributing to the development of partnerships and publications to disseminate the results and promote climate risk analysis and adaptation in the development cooperation context.
Preparation of communication materials and coordination with strategic partners to increase visibility and policy advocacy.
Acquisition of new projects, including the identification of opportunities, preparation of expressions of interest and technical proposals, expert recruitment, and other related activities.
Your Profile
A university degree in natural sciences, engineering, economics or a related field
Proven knowledge and experience in research and/or policy advice in at least one of the following fields: climate risk modelling, climate and disaster risk management, climate change adaptation, climate risk finance
Experience in project management in the context of development cooperation and in coordinating with a broad range of actors
Professional experience in finance or relevant fields of development cooperation, preferably in the interaction of the public and private sector
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of German and French is an advantage
Good understanding of the German or multilateral development cooperation, work experience in developing countries would be an asset
High level of cultural sensitivity and ability to work in a multi-cultural team, very good analytical skills
Openness, strong communication and organisational skills
A willingness to travel within Europe and to developing countries on a case-by-case basis
