Frankfurt School of Finance & Management is an EQUIS, AACSB and ABMA internationally accredited, research-orientated business school with university status. We offer comprehensive educational and advisory services to students, executives, graduates, participants, clients, and partners from all over the world.

Launched at COP27 by the Vulnerable Twenty (V20) Group and the Group of Seven (G7), the Global Shield against Climate Risks (GS) aims to increase protection for vulnerable people and countries and contribute to effectively responding to loss and damage from climate change. The Global Shield promotes an inclusive, gender-responsive and demand-driven process, which is led by the vulnerable countries’ governments (https://www.globalshield.org/). 

Within the initiative the Global Shield Secretariat serves all Global Shield Governance bodies. It facilitates knowledge management and tracks progress in achieving the objectives of the Global Shield against Climate Risks. It also enhances its visibility. 

The Global Shield Board has mandated Frankfurt School of Finance & Management (FS) to host the Global Shield Secretariat (GS Sec).

FS is therefore looking for a full-time Communication and Marketing Advisor at the GS Sec to start as soon as possible, with a contract duration of three years.

Your Tasks

Strategic Communication

  • Support the political and strategic positioning of the GS through an active communication approach, constantly monitoring ongoing relevant political developments in the climate finance sphere.
  • Support the development of policy briefs by members of the team.
  • Develop strategic communication and annual implementation plans for the GS Secretariat, together with relevant team members.
  • Lead editorial and end to end development of reports.

Global Shield Public Relations

  • Liaise with press and media outlets conducting active public relations work (e.g. contact and networking with media outlets and other relevant GS stakeholders, development of press releases, political communication of key messages, story-telling) on climate and disaster risk finance and insurance (CDRFI).
  • Actively communicate and market the achievements of the GS to raise awareness and promote the experiences and knowledge deriving from the work / products of the GS Sec.
  • Manage several communications and marketing initiatives
  • Manage centralized digital assets and resources to enable GS storytelling

Content Creation for Social Media

  • Support the regular input (e.g. content creation) within social media channels (Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube) together with relevant colleagues.
  • Support the GS Sec with all relevant communication tools (e.g. layouting) and products (incl. GS Report, studies, etc.).

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Your Profile

Education

  • BA, MSc or M.A. in a relevant academic discipline, such as communications, journalism or other relevant social sciences.

Experience

  • At least five years of professional work experience in communication and public relation roles, preferably in the development finance context;
  • Knowledge of climate change adaptation, disaster risk management, and disaster risk financing preferred;
  • Experience in writing press releases, briefings, communication strategies;
  • Experience in working with high-level representatives of governments, media representatives, civil society, private sector, and development organisations;
  • Work experience in a non-OECD country as well as in a multicultural work environment is desired;
  • Previous experience with and exposure to the Global Shield would be an advantage;
  • Network in global community of climate risk management and insurance actors will be an advantage.

Competencies, Skills & Languages

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);
  • Layouting skills;
  • Understanding of critical issues in sustainable development, international climate change policy, and climate finance frameworks;
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to identify clear objectives, prioritize effectively, and use time efficiently;
  • Contacts within the creative industries and up to date knowledge of content development and trends;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, as well as individually;
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
  • Excellent proficiency in English and fluency in French or Spanish is considered a strong asset;
  • Other desirable skills: excellent networking, communication skills; initiative, strong conceptual abilities; sound judgment; resilience; excellent team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity; excellent team spirit.
